THE BEGINNINGS
The Methodist Welfare Services (MWS) was formed in 1980 by the General Conference of The Methodist Church in Singapore with a pro tem committee, under the chairmanship of Mr Richard Tambyah. The MWS Constitution was drafted and adopted by the General Conference Executive Committee of The Methodist Church in Singapore in 1981.
FIRST GENERAL MEETING & IPC STATUS
MWS held its inaugural General Meeting on 13 Feb. In the same year, MWS was granted Institution of Public Character status for 5 years.
METHODIST HOME FOR THE AGED SICK OPENS
The Methodist Home for the Aged Sick was completed at St George's Lane, and admitted its first 6 residents in August. It was officially opened by Mr S. Dhanabalan, then-Minister of Foreign Affairs and Member of Parliament for Kallang, in 1984.
BURSARY OFFERED TO FIRST BATCH OF STUDENTS
MWS made its first presentation of Bursary Awards to needy students.
EXTENDING HELP TO NEEDY FAMILIES
MWS partnered Kampong Kapor Methodist Church to set up a Family Service Centre at Blk 640 Rowell Road.
FIRST CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT
The first MWS Charity Golf Tournament was convened by Barker Road Methodist Church.
