1981

THE BEGINNINGS

The Methodist Welfare Services (MWS) was formed in 1980 by the General Conference of The Methodist Church in Singapore with a pro tem committee, under the chairmanship of Mr Richard Tambyah. The MWS Constitution was drafted and adopted by the General Conference Executive Committee of The Methodist Church in Singapore in 1981. 

1982

FIRST GENERAL MEETING & IPC STATUS

MWS held its inaugural General Meeting on 13 February. In the same year, MWS was granted Institution of Public Character status for 5 years.

1983

METHODIST HOME FOR THE AGED SICK OPENS

The Methodist Home for the Aged Sick was completed at St George’s Lane, and admitted its first 6 residents in August 1983.

1986

BURSARY OFFERED TO FIRST BATCH OF STUDENTS

MWS made its first presentation of Bursary Awards to students in need.

1987

EXTENDING HELP TO NEEDY FAMILIES

MWS partnered Kampong Kapor Methodist Church to set up a Family Service Centre at Blk 640 Rowell Road.

1989

FIRST CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT

The MWS Fellowship on The Greens Charity Golf Tournament was initiated by the late Dr Tay Eng Soon and the late Mr Edwin Chan to raise funds for MWS and promote fellowship amongst golfers. The first tournament was convened by Barker Road Methodist Church.
